Getting his panties in a wad, Trojan Delta Chi, believes Ted Hutton needlessly calls out Troy for their common practice of oversigning players.

http://ncaabbs.com/showthread.php?tid=374834

http://gotroytrojans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13673

He then drones on about how Ted is slinging mud needlessly and not doing real reporting.

http://weblogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports/college/fau/blog/2009/06/oversigning_how_troy_reloads_a.html

IT'S A BLOG PEOPLE!  Ted can write opinions if he wants to and that's what makes blogs more interesting than pure news articles!

And any major news article that mentions oversigning ALWAYS points out Troy's Larry Blakeney as one of the undisputed kings of the practice (with 40 players signed last year - what's that limit again - oh, right 25 - numbers).  And after 37 letters-of-intent rolled in on national signing day for Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt, he cracked, "...there's no rule that says we can't sign 80."  So, how far can they stretch the limits?  Before now, it was limitless.  That's why rules are made... checks and balances.

Examples: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/andy_staples/05/29/oversigning/index.html
http://www.collegefantasyfootballinsider.com/article.aspx?ID=387

When the SEC abandons the practice of oversigning and the rest of the NCAA may follow soon, the Troy players boast on their blogs about how they will DESTROY FAU and the conference regardless of oversigning and destroy Ted Hutton for his blog.  Hilarious!  Troy has been doing it for years and when it all comes out in the wash, it may very well prove to be their undoing.  They say it is not cheating and it is playing by the rules and it is.  But soon, the rules of the game will change.  And even crybabies like TrojanDeltaChi need to follow the rules regardless of what competing school Blog-writers say about them.

Now, I am going to go look at a Troy or North Texas webblogger and get mad whenever he knocks FAU!

WAA WAA WAA!  Sad

I find it funny that one of their posters insinuates that our school recruits from prisons.  Wasn't Troy the team that got that kid from Oklahoma with the gun and "gangster" rapping issues?... Roll Eyes  Only to go on and choke out one of their students at the student union soon after he arrived at Troy? I guess that diploma mill they call a university doesn't even teach them the definition of hypocrisy.

Good for TED!!!! When more people start attacking you, all it means is that more people are reading your blogs.  I am sure Teds ratings and internet hits are increasing.  As FAU improves, there will only be more haters and more mudslinging.  I wouldn't get upset, but on the contrary, be excited about it.  Just shows the increasing threat the Troy fans see FAU as.

I think the story about Troy oversigning players is important to understanding their success in the conference and how that impacts FAU.

It may indeed affect our recruiting, in fact it probably will if it comes to fruition. That, along with the rise of USA, could bring Troy down quite a bit. The future is uncertain and there are definitely some gloomy looking possibilities. Keep in mind though, that one or two Troy fan's opinion's do not represent the entire Trojan nation. While I respect the bloggers as they are some of Troy's most diehard fans, we don't always share the same ideas or opinions. Not taking anything away from the guys over there, just trying to be objective.

But for now, Troy brings back all of its coaches from last year, something we haven't done in 18 years, and our Top QB, RB, and WR. We lose two all conference tackles, but their replacements are already well on their way to becoming great tackles. I know it's a ways away, but do you guys think Rusty will come to Troy and beat the Trojans again?

I'll be driving up to Troy from SFL to watch it!

It's still way too early to be able to tell what that game will be like, it could feasibly be THE conference championship (which is why I'm planning on going) or one of us could be a complete bust, though not likely. I know the last time Rusty brought a team into Troy, AL...well, you remember Smiley

If the game still matters, then Howard is the one to watch out for. He gets his teams up for big games (6-0 in bowls, best ever!) National titles, Conference titles!

It will be HUGE if we go up there and get a win. Troy is real good and even better at home. We definitely need to bring our A+ game

A couple of misguided Troy fans do not speak for the Trojan faithful. There are a few clowns everywhere - even here.

Blakeney does not break the rules and has never failed to get a scholarship-offered kid into the school. Deal with it or change the rules.

When he allows a kid with a past or who has made mistakes, to be on the team, that kid has to change and prove himself. Otherwise, he's gone. I guarantee you Jarboe is on a short leash.

As for that silly review site, if it can't even get the name of the university correct, what else could be wrong with its content?

So what? Florida Atlantic's grade on that site is a B-. Last I checked there's not much difference between a C+ and a B-...

Not that it matters, why are we talking crap anyway?  Grin

I agree with the last poster in that Blakeney isn't breaking any rules and he's never left a kid out to dry because of a miscount in scholarships. We've been doing this for a long time. If it really was APR issue, it would have happened already. I think the hate is spewing because we have an advantage that simply put, others aren't willing to put forth the huge amount of effort that goes into this kind of recruiting. It's hard keeping track of everything, and that turns many coaches away in fear that they'll screw up. When they see someone not screwing it up, it irritates the fans because if their coaches can't do it, other coaches shouldn't do it either. They think if nobody else in the sunbelt is doing it, it must be illegal, when it's really not. They say "well everyone can't be wrong" but i think it's the sheep mentality that makes programs mediocre. "we'll just do what everyone else is doing, play it safe." Troy takes risks and thats how we've grown from DII to Sunbelt champs in the span Blakeney's been at Troy. If you wanna get better, you have to do the things nobody else is willing to do. That's courage, that's commitment, that's TROY.

I just dont see why Troy Fans takes it so personally?

I mean Teds original blog and subsequent ones flat out stated that the practice IS legit, and that Blakney is a master of it. He's not fond of it, and it seems that most other coach's dont run that way either. Doesnt make it illegal or wrong, just seems sort of Skeevy to those of us who dont understand the process.

Apparently so was Nutt in the SEC. NOW you've got the SEC who has banned/limited the practice because of Nutts success and his bragging about it. Can it be far behind that the NCAA or the Belt does the same? What will Troy do then? They have built a cycle of this and if it get restricted you could see Troy have a few down years as they adjust to a more "traditional" method of recruiting.

One thing I've noticed about the Troy fans is they are OVERLY protective of Blakney. Make the slightest indication about something hes doing and a lot of them get bent WAY out of shape. He WAS involved in some monkey business years ago but has run a clean program at Troy ever since.

Troy fans need to stop freaking out anytime someone talks about Blakney in a less the angelic light. Its not personal, its football. Only 2 teams out of 120 use the system as thier primary reload tool. Its only natrual for the rest to look on with skepticisim when those coach's do it.
