Florida Atlantic Football lands former Georgia State QB Zach Gibson via transfer portal

Florida Atlantic Football landed an experienced addition out of the transfer portal on Wednesday evening. Former Georgia State QB and 3-star transfer Zach Gibson announced he would be transferring to FAU for his final season of eligibility.

The 6 ‘2 201 pound senior will be heading to FAU for his 7th season of college football, starting at Akron in 2019, appearing in 17 games across 3 seasons, throwing for 2471 yards, 15 touchdowns and 8 interceptions before transferring to Georgia Tech in 2022. In his first season at GT, Gibson appeared in 6 games, starting 3, throwing for 589 yards 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions, also leading his squad to a win over North Carolina who was 13th in the country at the time.

After not seeing playing time in 2023, Gibson opted to transfer to Georgia State for this past season, appearing in 6 games once again, throwing for 1,004 yards, 7 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

Although there will not be a direct path to playing time for Gibson, he will most likely serve as the direct backup to Caden Veltkamp and should he need to see the field, he will bring an immense amount of experience to the table. Gibson is a true pocket passer and has show to be very accurate during his playing time, notching a 10-0 TD-INT ratio with Akron in 2021.

Gibson joins a crowded QB room at FAU, most likely checking in as the number 2 behind Veltkamp and he is joined in the room by Kasen Weisman, Jordan Magwood, Carson Cruver and Michael Valentino.
