Owls sweep two-game series over Big Red Mike Albaladejos three-run home run in the second inning proved to the difference as the Owls defeated Cornell 3-2 on Wednesday night. The victory is the fourth in a row for FAU as they move six games over .500 for the first time this season. “He has been talking for a year about that first home run,” said FAU coach John McCormack. “It was a good pitch for him. Fortunate for us, it was a good time for him to get his first home run.” R.J. Alvarez (1-1) received his third start of the season and pitched well, earning his first collegiate victory. The freshman lasted four shutout innings and gave up two hits with no walks and three strikeouts. Alvarez continues to develop his command and has thrown an increasing number of breaking pitches with each start. Colby Gratton also had a record night, tying an FAU single game record with three stolen bases. Gratton stole second and third on back-to-back pitches in the fourth then stole second again in the sixth. The Owls (13-7) will hit the road on Thursday en route to Louisiana-Lafayette for their second road conference series of the season. RHP Ryan Garton (2-0, 3.63) will start for FAU on Friday night.
