Palm Beach native goes 5-for-5 with three RBI Andy Mee had a career night on Tuesday, going 5-for-5 and batting for the cycle in a 10-5 Owls victory over Cornell at the FAU Baseball Stadium. The banner night for the former JUCO standout boosted his batting average to .417 on the season. The Owls (12-7, 4-2) started off strongly in the first inning with back-to-back RBI base hits by Colby Gratton and Nick Delguidice to give the Owls a 2-0 lead. Mee recorded his second hit of the night in the third inning, a solo home run left to put FAU ahead 3-0. Dan Schefflers fifth-inning two-run home run extended the FAU lead to 5-0. The first baseman leads the Owls with five home runs this season. The big inning for FAU was in the sixth, when Andy Mees two-RBI double capped off a four-run inning and put the game out of reach at 10-0. The final hit of the night for Mee came in the eighth, when his line drive over the head of centerfielder Nate David allowed him to trot around to third and record his first career cycle. We’ll keep him around for one more day, said a jovial John McCormack. “He hit that ball right on the screws.” Taylor Everist (2-4) pitched well in his second straight midweek start. The right-hander pitched five innings of shutout baseball and did not allow a hit with one walk and four strikeouts. The Owls will continue their two-game series against Cornell on Wednesday. R.J. Alvarez (0-1, 7.20) will start for FAU. Cornells starter is to be determined. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Game Discussion
