The University of South Alabama volleyball team overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat Florida Atlantic University 3-2 on Friday night at FAU Arena. The Owls were led by 20 kills from senior Anne Vaughn, who finished the night with a .261 hitting percentage. The Owls (13-18, 4-11 SBC) led the entire first set and were tied at 10-10 in set two before going on a 9-0 run behind the serving of senior Joanne Marras Tate. The offensive firepower came from Vaughn and Georgia Robinson during the run with two kills each. Six FAU blocks helped hold the Jaguars to a -.049 hitting percentage in the set. USA (11-19, 6-9 SBC) bounced back with a .367 hitting percentage in game three and 17 digs to gain the momentum. Samia Salomao and Juliana Almeida both finished with 19 kills for USA and Jenna Hassell led the team with 17 digs. Marras Tate finished with 36 assists and a team-leading 15 digs. She will be one of four seniors honored on Senior Day during a 2 p.m. match against Troy.
