Myers Responsible For Five Runs In Victory The softball team split a doubleheader with South Alabama on Saturday falling in game one 3-1, and winning the second 6-2. The Owls (19-18, 4-4 Sun Belt) went ahead in the bottom of the second of the first game on a solo homerun to center field by Blair Bodenmiller. It was Bodenmiller’s fifth homerun of the season. The lead held until the fourth inning when Haley Hopkins tied the game on a solo homerun of her own. South Alabama (15-14, 3-3 Sun Belt) took the lead for good at 3-1 in the top of the sixth inning on a two-run triple to right center by Hopkins. Beth Pilgrim retired the last 12 Owl batters while throwing a complete game two-hitter. In the second game, FAU struck early, scoring three runs in the first inning. With Amber Jones already on third, Bodenmiller was intentionally walked to bring Jessica Myers to the plate. Myers tripled to right center before scoring on an RBI single by Taylor Fawbush. The Jaguars cut into the lead on a solo homerun by Marissa Boyd. South Alabama pulled closer in the fourth inning scoring on a Boyd single to make the score 3-2. The Owls answered in the bottom of the inning when Ashlyn Parmerter drove in Kimberly Petrovich on a base hit to left. FAU added two more runs in the fifth inning when Bodenmiller was intentionally walked for a second time. Myers once again made the Jaguars pay as her two-run double to left put the Owls ahead for good at 6-2. Kathryn Stauffer got the first two outs of the seventh before loading the bases. Rose Gressley got the final out for her first save of the year. The win was Stauffer’s seventh on the season.
