Europe is the next destination head coach John Jakus looked while landing his next addition to the FAU men’s basketball roster, acquiring a talented wing in Maximilian Langenfeld. Maximilian Langenfeld Guard/Forward 6-6, 196 lbs Germany Langenfeld announced his commitment to the Owls on Monday afternoon. At the age of 20, he showcases himself as a player who can shoot and score the ball at will for the Owls. Hailing from Germany, he made his debut with Team Ehingen Urspring in the ProA league during the 2019-20 season. Over his first three seasons with the team, his playing time increased as he became more integrated into the offense. In his final season with the team, he averaged 6.8 points and 2.1 rebounds in 17 appearances. Subsequently, he joined OrangeAcademy before the 2022-23 season, competing in the Pro B South division of German basketball. It was here that he truly emerged, achieving career-high averages of 24.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists during the 2023-24 campaign. His standout scoring performance occurred on October 14th, 2023, when he dropped 43 points in OrangeAcademy’s 104-87 victory over Ehingen. Shooting an impressive 14-16 from the field, including nine three-pointers, he played a pivotal role in securing the win. Furthermore, he has experienced success at the highest level, serving as a reserve for Ratiopharm Ulm, where he made six appearances during their 2022-23 German National Championship-winning campaign. This past season, he made an additional nine appearances, indicating his continued development as a player. Langenfeld has also represented his country in international competitions as a member of the German U20 National Team. He participated in the 2023 European U20 Championship, averaging 6.3 points on 41.2% shooting from the field and 38% from beyond the arc across seven games. Joining the Owls for the 2024-25 season, his size provides plenty of advantages at the wing. When FAU is particularly in need of consistent shotmaking during close games, Langenfeld can step in to fill that role. Some of his highlights from Germany can be viewed below:
