Gooden announced his commitment to the Owls on Monday evening, shortly after making his official visit this weekend.
“I love FAU because every time I step on campus, I feel at home. The whole coaching staff welcomes me with open arms, Coach Herman as well, at all the games. I love when the lights go off when they score. It’s electric,” Gooden said.
“The campus is amazing and the fields are too. I speak with them on a weekly basis. They always check up on me, making sure I’m good like family.”
Throughout two seasons at Fort Pierce Westwood High School, Gooden has recorded up to 76 tackles (63 solo), 11 TFLs, and three sacks in 16 games. This past campaign was his best performance to date, making 48 tackles (35 solo), 7 TFLs, and a pair of sacks throughout nine appearances.
One of his top showings came against Central High School last October, making a season-high nine tackles (six solo) and two tackles for loss en route to a 20-13 victory. His success on defense helped the team go 6-3 in the games he took part in.
Rated as a three-star defender with an 84 score on 247Sports, he is ranked the 119th-best player at his position and the 189th-best in the state of Florida. His composite score of 0.8626 has him listed at 69th among edge defenders and 125th in the state of Florida. On3 and Rivals also have him rated as a three-star player.
He chose the Owls over offers from multiple FBS schools such as West Virginia, James Madison, Indiana, Liberty, Marshall, and Charlotte among others.
“Football-wise, I feel like I can be developed to my full potential with what I’ve seen in positional meetings and that’s what any recruit would want: a family that will develop you and make sure you’re good for the next level,” Gooden said.
Gooden is the seventh member of the Owls’ 2025 class, joining Seth Chestnut, Nigel Nelson, Hector Chavez, Damon Allen, Robert Lee, and Jordan Magwood.
His size, athleticism, and playmaking ability make him an ideal fit for FAU’s defensive scheme that will emphasize aggressiveness throughout every play.
