Waseem announced his commitment to the Owls on Monday evening via X, shortly after entering the portal on Dec. 9. He joins the team with three years of eligibility remaining.

He looks for a new opportunity after being a member of the Colorado Buffaloes for two seasons, having been a reserve at a position filled with star players like Travis Hunter and former FAU receiver Lajohntay Wester. He played in two games during the 2023 campaign as part of the kick return unit, but did not appear in any contest throughout 2024.

Even after entering the portal to signal his departure from Colorado, he still received a strong endorsement from head coach Deion Sanders.

“This kid can flat out play. He’s caught in the numbers game with us and I wanted him to go and have a chance to START elsewhere because I care about him. Great young man whom grew a lot with our program and a Florida boy! Love ya man. Remember our last conversation and go get it!” Sanders said via X on Dec. 11.

A 5-foot-10 athlete, Waseem can play on the offensive side of the field at a high level. His ability to make catches as a receiver is worthy to note about the potential he showcased at Ocoee High School.

“Leading receiver for an Ocoee program that made an appearance in Florida’s 4M semifinals. In 14 games, caught 82 passes for 1,481 yards and 20 TD. Also got some snaps on defense where he picked off a pair of passes and was able to make an impact in the return game returning a kickoff 95 yards for a score against Miami Columbus,” said 247Sports’ Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins.

Waseem was viewed as a consensus three-star prospect by recruiting outlets coming out of high school. On 247Sports, he has an 87 score as the 109th-best wide receiver in the Class of 2023 and the 116st-best player in the state of Florida. He had multiple offers from Power Four teams like Florida State, Miami, UCF, Arkansas, Texas A&M, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee among other schools before choosing Colorado in December 2022.

Waseem has the ability to make difficult catches and break down opposing defenses with his speed and strength, making him potentially invaluable for FAU’s depth at wide receiver as well as special teams.
