Collins announced his commitment to the Owls on Tuesday afternoon via X, shortly after entering the portal on Dec. 18. He joins FAU with three years of eligibility remaining, reuniting with his position coach Jajuan Dulaney.

He looks for a new opportunity after being a member of the UTEP Miners for one season. He took part in eight games throughout 2024 but didn’t record any stats in his time on the field. Despite this, his displays didn’t go unnoticed as Conference USA gave him All-Freshman honors.

Collins played his first collegiate game at Liberty while he got the nod in the last seven games. Though Collins didn’t record any catches, his strong frame provided extra protection for UTEP quarterbacks while creating space and holes for running backs.

After missing a pair of contests, Collins played at WKU in which the Miners gained 152 yards on the ground. That started a string of four consecutive games in which UTEP rushed for over 150 yards including a 211-yard effort against FIU. The Miners only allowed one sack each in their wins against FIU, Kennesaw State and New Mexico State.

A 6-foot-4 athlete, Collins can play on both sides of the ball at a high level. His ability to make catches as a receiver and make stops on defense are worthy to note about the potential he showcased at South Pittsburg High School, where he played tight end and defensive end.

As a senior, he tallied 43 tackles (37 solo), 6.0 sacks, 19.0 TFLs and a forced fumble in 10 games played on defense while having 597 receiving yards and three touchdowns on offense. The Pirates finished 15-0 (5-0) and claimed a state championship with his participation in the team’s defense being key, as the Pirates only yielded 21 points in 15 games.

Collins was viewed as a consensus three-star prospect by recruiting outlets coming out of high school. On 247Sports, he has an 85 score as the 49th-best player in the state of Tennessee and the 127th-best athlete in the Class of 2024. He originally committed to SEC powerhouses Alabama and Auburn before ultimately flipping to UTEP in December 2023.

Collins has the ability to make key blocks and break down opposing defenses with his speed and strength, making him potentially invaluable for FAU’s depth at tight end and special teams.
