Tyclean and Tycoolhill made their commitments to the Owls, shortly after making an official visit to the Boca Raton campus on Jan. 6. They join the team with four years of eligibility remaining.
Finding their next destination was important for Tyclean and Tycoolhill, but being able to stick together as brothers mattered most.
“It feels great because we know entering the portal, stuff would be risky sometimes. The fact that we both entered the portal together, and we prayed on it before doing it, and the fact that we’re still together, it all goes to God. I’m so happy and excited to play with my twin brother again,” Tyclean said.
“Coaches always ask us, ‘Am I taking you or your brother?’ A coach would be like, ‘Oh, I’m taking you; I won’t take your brother’ or they’ll be like, ‘I’m taking your brother; I’m not taking you.’ When a coach says that, it’s a red flag automatically so it’s like, ‘Oh, we’re for sure not going there.’ FAU wanted both of us from the jump,” Tycoolhill replied.
They look for a new opportunity after being a member of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights for one season, adapting to college football as reserves, respectively.
The brothers enjoyed their conversations with head coach Zach Kittley and the coaching staff after entering the portal on Dec. 28, but one person stood out to them that played a huge role in their decision to join FAU: Roc Bellantoni. He was the Owls’ defensive coordinator for the 2023 and 2024 campaigns, departing for Auburn to become their new outside linebackers coach.
Both being 6-foot-3 athletes, Tyclean and Tycoolhill can play on the defensive side of the field at a high level. Their ability to make crucial stops is worthy to note about the potential they showcased at Miami Norland High School.
As a senior, Tyclean helped the Vikings to a 14-1 record and an FHSAA Class 2M state title game appearance in 2023 by tallying 37 tackles, 11 tackles-for-loss and 5.5 sacks. Tycoolhill made his impact known on that side of the ball as well, making 27 tackles, nine tackles-for-loss and seven sacks.
The twins were viewed as consensus three-star prospects by recruiting outlets coming out of high school. On 247Sports, Tyclean has an 85 score as the 106th-best edge in the Class of 2024 and the 192nd-best player in the state of Florida. Tycoolhill boasts an 86 rating as the 75th-best edge and the 130th-best in the Sunshine State.
They shared offers from the likes of Arkansas, West Virginia, Minnesota, and South Carolina among other schools before choosing Rutgers in December 2022.
Both players have the ability to bring a lot of pass rushing against opposing offenses, making the duo potentially key pieces for FAU’s depth at defensive line. Their goals upon joining the Owls are clear with ambition.
“I wish to achieve the most sacks had in a season. For team goals, I want to win the AAC Championship and win on behalf of FAU football,” Tyclean said.
“I’m just trying to win championships for my team and do whatever I can to make plays when my number is called to give us a chance to win,” Tycoolhill stated.
