The Owls have landed their first junior college commit of the 2021 cycle in wide receiver Jymetre Hester.
Hester was able to take an unofficial visit to FAU in early March just before Covid-19 prevented any prospects from visiting campuses across the country.
Hester silently committed to the Owls back in April but waited to make his decision to make the announcement.
"I want to play somewhere where I am wanted and not just needed," Hester told FAU Owl's Nest. "I also love being able to play close to home."
The Belle Glade native graduated from Glades Central high school in 2019 but decided to attend Mississippi Gulf Coast community college.
It was there that the 5'10 160 lbs freshmen receiver caught 48 passes for 657 yards and ten touchdowns for a 12-0 Mississippi Gulf Coast program that won the junior college national title this past season.
With the Owls losing five senior wide-outs after the upcoming football season, Hester's experience and production will fill a massive need for FAU football's 2021 class.
New FAU wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer, who was the primary recruiter for Hester, spent the last several months building a relationship with Hester over daily Zoom and phone calls.
"Coach Drew is a funny guy, we talk almost every day about everything from football to life,'' said Hester.
The three-star prospect chose the Owls over offers from Louisville, Western Kentucky, South Alabama, Southern Mississippi, Coastal Carolina, Arkansas State, and Louisiana Lafayette.
Hester becomes FAU football's first JUCO commit of the 2021 cycle, who hails from Palm Beach County but becomes the 8th commit from South Florida.

FAU's receiving core has some major potential in the future years.
This year they will be leaning grad transfers but after that, we have a ton of young talent.
Heading into 2021 our WR core could potentially look like:
Brandon Robison (2017 Transfer) RS SR
Demarcus Adams (FSU Tranfer) RS JR
Marvin Alexander (KY Transfer) RS JR
Eyon Cole (2019 FAU recruit) RS SO
Jymetre Hester (2021 FAU JUCI Recruit) JR
Xavier Roberts-Donaldson (2020 FAU Recruit) RS SO
Kobe Stewart ( 2020 FAU Recruit) SO or RS FR
Fred Eaford (2021 FAU Recruit) FR
Jahmal Edrine (2021 FAU Recruit) FR
Watching that alone is worth the price of admission.

The still has a ton of talent, but the transfer rules in Florida have hurt the program in the past few seasons.
There was a documentary on the two schools last year you can watch on youtube.
Here is the first EP it's good but a little unorganized as the games are out of order.
There is also an appearance by the most hansom Nest employee at the 31:44 mark.

Hester is averaging 15.5 yards catch this season.
He is one of the highest-rated players in the 2021 class for a reason.
