USF has the attendance (student body) and funding of a major P5 program. We cannot race that race with them.Rick said
USF is winning the recruiting race due to having an established NlL program.

The talent gap isn’t large enough that coaching cannot overcome. I do not buy that.
If this is our narrative, that we cant beat programs that have larger NIL, then why even play the games? Instead of football, lets just compete for fundraising. This is the “we cant sell unless we are the cheapest” argument.
It’s an excuse in my book. Especially at the American Conference level. You can line up largest NIL in our conference to results in W/L and it wont align next year.
It would be nice to have the largest NIL in the conference, but the way we played teams like Ohio, ECU, Rice, etc is absolutely coaching.

We don't get the guy we both want.
Nah, coaching takes care of that…
Do I have this correct?

Tom Herman will most likely make some big changes. And, I'm super confident that he will right the ship.
The silver lining of not playing in a bowl, is that you can do a lot more homework and focus most of your attention on recruiting and 2024.
Our awesome school is riding a wave of momentum and we all should have known that it would be messy cleaning up after Taggart. Just saying.
GO OWLS!!!! Looking forward to 2024

Please forgive my rant in advance but I’ve wanted to get this off my chest for a while….I think the athletics department at FAU (and FIU) is okay with being second rate, thinking of themselves more like FGCU than USF. USF isn’t much different in status as a university in the state from the likes of FAU and FIU yet they are able to afford a new $340 million football stadium and already play in a suitable basketball area, while FAU and FIU can’t fund decent basketball arenas?
Also, with regards to the football team, I think part of the problem is a lack of football talent in the area to recruit from, especially with lineman. Another is the lack of fans and lack of a good gameday atmosphere. There is a misconception that South Florida has tons of high school football talent but I’ve heard repeatedly that high school football coaching and development in the area isn’t what it once was. IMO, the South Florida area has a lot of fast athletes/track stars but that is not enough, especially at the FBS level. G5 programs in other areas of the south, Texas, and the Midwest (such as Ohio) have better access to bigger and more skilled linemen and football players in general and can more easily recruit speed from the south than vice versa. IMO, FAU looked like an FCS team with small speedy athletes against a bigger, stronger, and more skilled Rice team yesterday. It’s amazing the score was as close as it was with how Rice dominated the game.
South Florida recruits are also among the most likely to want to move away from home if they can. Many would rather attend Syracuse, Pitt, Illinois, even Marshall, App State, WKU, or Southern Miss than play for FAU or FIU. At least before they get homesick. Then the ones that aren’t good enough to make the cut at those programs come back home via the portal. Conversely, many freshman that end of doing well locally at FAU or FIU leave for other programs with better gameday atmospheres the first chance they get.
I am probably exaggerating out of frustration but it’s something that has become very noticeable. The norm for the local G5 teams seem to 4-8 type seasons and it seems very clear why. Even UM has been getting hurt by similar issues.

A solid coaching staff with the talent we should have on our roster absolutely wins 8 games with our schedule next year. Yes.

I actually 100% agree with this. As far as USF vs FAU athletics…They had ~$60m in athletics revenue last year to our ~$40m.
