SERIES CAPSULE: FAU @ Rice - May 10th - 12th, 2024

6 innings have passed with FAU down by four in the series finale. Brandon Smith did well for 5 innings, striking out 5 batters for a new career high, subbing out with Dawson Ball and Braden Ostrander taking turns on the mound. Need to put runs on the board to gain some momentum.

Close, but not close enough for FAU as they lose the tiebreaker to Rice. 4 games remain in the regular season, with FGCU being their last non-conference game of the year.

This season has been as expected. Numbers are not very good all across  the board. Needs to be a busy off season of rebuilding to get FAU moving in the right direction. We need improvement everywhere.

We are in serious jeopardy of finishing below .500 for the first time in a LONG time.

Four tough games still await…

Must go 2-1 against UTSA or we might not even make the tournament.

Losing LHP Kide Adetuyi and 1B Mike La Rocca for the  year coupled with Rich's shoulder issues were absolute daggers to an already thin group from a talent POV. Adetuyi has nasty stuff…and even though a freshman, he would have likely started based on what Mac had said off the record at media day.

The conversation needs to be had, is it time to move on from Mac? A new coach for the softball team is already showing returns. I know, different situation how Coach Clark got the job but still, a new coach.

I feel like we’ve got some optimism with Herman, Jakus and Clark. None for this baseball program outside of the new practice facility.

I'm not in the business of making that kind of decision, but IMHO, HELL NO. John is the best coach at FAU. There are so many factors that attributed  to a 500 type season. Without Mac we wouldn't even be where we are. My previous post was not a coaching criticism.  It was an observation from a fan. Trust me, John knows the teams weakness'. He is probably already working on correcting them. AD White has a million issues at FAU to worry about. The head baseball coach isn't one of them.

We’ve been mediocre for a while now. What record do you need to see before it’s time for a refresh? I’m not saying we HAVE to make a change (I like Mac too). I’m just saying the conversation should be started if we want to keep pace with our expectations of the other sports.
