Only five games are on the Week 6 docket in The American as five of the conference’s 14 teams enjoy open dates - Memphis, Charlotte, Southern Methodist, East Carolina, and Tulane.
South Florida saw a 19-game road losing streak end with a 44-30 win at Navy. It was the Bulls' first road victory since a 45-20 win at East Carolina Oct. 26, 2019.
Tulsa QB Cardell Williams figured in four touchdowns (three passing, one rushing) in the Golden Hurricane's 45-31 win against Temple Thursday. Williams is the first Tulsa freshman in program history to have two games with three or more touchdown passes.
They will face off against Florida Atlantic, who will see thier first American Conference action since joining the league.
SMU RB Jaylan Knighton rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries in the Mustangs' 34-16 win against Charlotte. Knighton had a 95-yard touchdown run that ranks as the third-longest rushing play in American Athletic Conference history.
Memphis has won 27 of its last 28 home games against nonconference opponents.
Tulane is 16-3 in its last 19 games, marking its best 19-game stretch since a 16-2-1 run from 1948-49.
Rice defeated East Carolina despite being on the short end of the box score in total yards (391-277), rushing yards (145-37), first downs (25-14) and time of possession (34:58-25:02).
UTSA heads to Temple Saturday in a game that will mark the Roadrunners’ northernmost game site since a Nov. 17, 2012, contest at Idaho.
North Texas has had back-to-back games with a 100-yard rusher and a 100-yard receiver after going more than a full season without accomplishing the feat - since Nov. 20, 2021, in a 49-7 win against FIU.
They visit Navy Saturday for the second meeting between the teams. The only previous meeting came in 2007, when Navy won a wild 74-62 matchup in Denton, Texas, as the teams set an NCAA FBS record for combined points (since broken by Pitt-Syracuse in 2016).
Here is the slate for the weekend:
Saturday, October 7
UTSA at Temple * (2 p.m., ESPN+)
North Texas at Navy * (3:30 p.m., CBSSN)
South Florida at UAB * (4 p.m., ESPN2)

UTSA 49 Temple 34
The northern Owls puts up 34 points and 542 yards on the Roadrunners' defense. I mean, that's not good, but 49 points on offense isn't too shabby either.
Temple turned the rick over at the most inopportune time as well, or the outcome might have been different. Bottom line: The American truly is all over the place this season.
