Gainesville Regional Discussion Thread

Nice win.

Was there enough interest in the bus trip for students and fans to go ahead with it?

Sweet. Guess we go with alverez next.

Possibly…McCormack said he was "thinking it over", and not sure who he will start for tomorrow…

Which may not be a bad move, because if you face OSU (likely) you then have to take on UF  later in the evening.

Re: Gainesville Regional Discussion Thread

However…….

Final in game two of today's action:

UF 10 OSU 2

So, the Owls face the Beavers again tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.

Which means…

If we beat them, we will need to beat UF both in the night cap, and then again on Monday for the championship.

Tall order, but that's why they play the game!

Inside the Beavers' Dugout

The patient Beavers, Friday's game against FAU was delayed 3 hour & 15 minutes and yesterdays game with UF was delayed 1 hour and 17 minutes due to weather conditions.

The Beavers extended their streak of scoring at least one run to 114 games, by scoring in the 4th inning of yesterdays game. OSU has not been shut out since May 20, 2008 at Long Beach State.

Oregon State starter Sam Gaviglio struggled early,  giving up seven runs in the 3rd inning before being pulled.  Gaviglio allowed nine hits and eight runs while striking out one and walking three in 2-2/3 innings of work.

Dylan Jones threw 5-2/3 innings in relief of Gaviglio, and scattered just four hits and two runs in his longest outing of the season. The lefty struck out three.

The Beavers have been formidable from the toe rubber on the season with a 3.97 ERA and hold a 8-11 mark for games played on the road while going 17-13 during day games.

Florida Atlantic

On the mound: R.J. Alvarez (3-1, 4.47 ERA)

Inside the Owls' Dugout

The 18 hits by the Owls broke a Season high record (17) and tied the Regional record, a record set by the Owls against Florida in the Coral Gables Regional in '03.

The record came off the bat of Anthony Mesa (.274), a 2 RBI double in the top of the 8th giving the Owls their largest lead (12-5).

Mike Albaladejo (.266) was not able to keep his 9-game hitting streak going, went 0-for-4.  Albaladejo walked once and scored one run. He was the only starter that did not get a least one hit on the afternoon.

Extra bases, the magic number is 8…5 Doubles; Raymond Church (16), Dan Scheffler (23), Eddie Cassidy (7), Colby Gratton (6) & Anthony Mesa (16)…1 Triple; Colby Gratton (5)…2 Home Run; Mesa ( 8 ) Church (11).

Gratton (.282) was a home run away from completing the cycle, going 3-for-4 with 1 RBI and score 3 runs.

Ryan Garton struggled a bit in the 3rd when he gave up 3 runs on 5 hits, but managed to settle down and complete seven strong innings, he allowed five runs off 11 hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Quote of the Day

"Oregon State, they can really pitch…you have to capitalize on the situations given, the way they are set-up and their bullpen I don't think you can let opportunities slip."
