Florida Atlantic got another commitment from Gavench Marcelin, who will make his way to Boca Raton in 2024 as one of the Owls' best recruits so far.
Marcelin announced his commitment on Thursday evening, more than one week after making an official visit to FAU on June 16.
Scheduled for a stop in at Pittsburgh on June 22, which former FAU football head coach Charlie Partridge (currently Pitt's defensive line coach) tried to acquire his services. A solid pickup from FAU's defensive coordinator Roc Bellantoni, who used to serve as Partridge's defensive coordinator during their time at FAU together from 2014 to 2016.
"As a junior, was credited with 99 tackles - 32 for loss - 48 QBH and 18 sacks per MaxPreps. Helped Belen Jesuit make Florida’s 3M playoffs," said 247Sports' Andrew Ivins.
Some of his highlights from 2022 can be seen below:
His talent as a defensive end garnered him multiple three-star ratings from 247Sports, Rivals, and On3. His 86 rating on the former is currently the best among FAU's recruits in 2024.
Marcelin became the 11th member of FAU's 2024 class following his commitment. He chose the Owls over Arizona, Pittsburgh, Appalachian State, Cincinnati, and Marshall among others.
He is also the sixth player to band with the Owls' defense in 2024, putting himself alongside defensive back Elijah Cannon, safeties Michael Wright III and Curtis Janvier, linebacker Remington Roberts, and cornerback Jaheim Miller.
