Transfer Portal
Rick, do you think the addition of CB from Iowa (Michal Antoine) and Central Michigan (Daemon Hill) had anything to do with Ross declaring late for the portal. I know he is listed as a Safety but he has played some CB over the years.Rick said
Saftey Ahman Ross has declared for the portal.Going to miss this guy! @FAUFootball Safety @AhmanRoss has declared for the portal. A fan favorite and one of ours as well, Ross will depart #FAU with 45 games played, 133 TTKL, 8.5 TFL, 1 SK, 1 INT, 4 FR. Maybe with a new DC he could see the writing on the wall.

THIS is what happens when you are getting blown out but still REFUSE to place all your players. Gonna need to try and recruit RBs hard this coming year as the RB room is clearing out, for good reason IMHO!
It is best to recruit and groom a QB, but Lane did us no favors in that regard.
Western Kentucky had great success last year with Bailey Zappe who transferred in after 4 years from Houston Baptist then on to the NFL and now Austin Reed lighting it up from West Florida via Southern Illinois University.
We need talent at QB before we start to improve with or without a new coach.

Hopefully our starting QB will come to us through the transfer portal for next year.

Agree and disagree on Lane/QBs. Agree he didn’t have a good track record signing QBs. At the same time, what did Taggart do to address QB depth? He signed his son and entered spring of 2020 with Tronti, Agner, WTJR, and Posey competing for starting job. I made the argument then they misused Tronti by calling way too many deeper passes rather than going run or option heavy. Even with COVID going on, Taggart couldn’t have found a QB through the portal in summer 2020?
Then Taggart brought in Michael Johnson Sr. and N’Kosi Perry. I thought highly of the move. But after how poorly the offense played to end last year, it would’ve been nice to see Taggart find another experienced QB in the portal even if he fully intended on starting Perry. But if Perry went down or wasn’t playing up to speed, he could’ve at least tried to have someone on the bench with actual playing and starting experience. Look how many kids jump in portal every year!
So for 2023, you’re probably going to have to bring in another transfer QB. Which is fine? But at least try to build a depth chart that if he goes down, you can turn to someone you genuinely trust to win a game.
