It’s out of control. The system isn’t built for fun anymore. I think there should be rules. If you commit to a school, and you take $1 of NIL money, that’s your school short of extreme circumstances

YES, there certainly needs to be some parameters put on NIL, but I am not sure that the NCAA are listening.

- owlmart’s idea above of NIL money committing a player to a school.
- limit on the amount of NIL money a player can receive annually.
- limiting NIL to second year players and beyond to make sure it is really not used for High School recruiting, per the NCAA current rule. (I am sure that is not happening)
- limit on the total that a university can receive in one year.

All the above would at least make the playing field of NIL a little more even.

It's too late. They will never un do the damage. College football , as I knew it, is gone.

The above institutions have large endowments funds and plenty of NIL contributors.

You're not alone…

I don't do NFL, and loved me some college football until the transfer portal and NIL came along. But will admit my interest has waned some.

Now it is just a drama fest and a burden that will increase the "keep up with the Jones's" mentality 10 fold.

Years ago , a player could only transfer if the program that they committed to changed.ie, fired coach, or coach taking a new job. Now it's money. I feel ,in a few years, the interest level will drop and viewership will drop. 20 -35 year old fans are not hard core fans. Once us "old guys" are gone, tv viewership will drop and the money will drop with it. NCAA shot themselves in the foot.

Sheesh glad its not just me but this transfer portal thing is out of control. I have a feeling they would hand the keys over to Thompson again next season, but still wasn't expecting Richardson to leave. Interested to see if we get anyone from transfer portal that could challenge Thompson. I suggested Sluka from Holy Cross a couple weeks ago and as of today apparently FAU is one of about 20 schools to reach out. He doesnt have a name, but seen him play and hes good, even if its the FCS level. Wouldn't mind him, but I think we def need to bring in someone to challenge Thompson outside of freshman and sophomores who are already on the roster.

Have to agree with you on this one Local Owl.

Gen z (11-26 year olds) definitely are not as interested in sports as much as others generations.

Lifestyle changes, loyalty to a team and only backing winners are some of the noticeable differences that we even see happening at FAU.

Not sure if this is just another “old guy” talking, but time will tell.

As for Thompson back at qb, I felt Richardson was an upgrade. But on an up note, basketball tonight and baseball around the corner.

We just finished our 4th straight football season of nothing to be excited about.  Our home slate of games this season were collectively just brutally awful.  Have taken a few weeks to objectively look back…if you bought season tickets and gave your Saturday’s to FAU in 2023, I legitimately apologize.

We are in the danger zone of going from disappointment to apathy, being a bad program and simply nobody caring that we are bad.

We are begging for donors to pay recruits to come play for us.  I hope that strategy works out.

Honest question…

Did the insane level of commercialization of the sport, the huge salaries to coaches/administrators and constant coming and going, or the huge payouts to fired coaches make it wane for you some?

I dont love all of it, but the “adults” definitely brought us to this point.

It’s basically just become a free market with no non competes.  You build a program with the right culture and recruit kids for the right reasons and develop them while here….at FAU’s level we will be just fine.
