I know I'm the Debbie Downer. Looking at that game, looking at the numbers, looking at the lack of production from certain player, we have problems. Rice would have won if they could have made 1 of 13 during their miss streak. Yes, we won. But man!Posted On: Jan 27th 2018, 6:11 PM #376720
Don't worry we will have 9 more tries at messing it up…
BUT for today, just glad it went in!

I am actually both surprised and IMPRESSED at the last play of the game…I mean, we actually ran a play…a REAL play…and it worked to perfection.
This might sound ridiculous saying it, but when you think back on what we have done previously at times when down it was near perfection. Inbound the ball, the player who receives the ball then runs to an exact spot for a pass to the spot up shooter (Massey).
In the past we have simply had no play at times or just tried to do an "NBA" - get it into the best guy on the team - then have him go one on one in hopes he wins it.
Granted we needed a three to win and didn't have to take it, but we could have just heaved it to someone and had them try to get a two point shot off on a dribble drive step back to tie and force overtime.
Even if Massey missed, would still be happy to see what we did transpire. Maybe Curry is changing the style a bit, and "tomorrows" will continue to get better.

Win 50% on the road and 80% at home and you can have a decent year then build off that.
We need to win the next two winnable games at home and we would be having a better year than expected. Don’t think it changes the big picture but at least the team is more fun to watch.

Dusky, Rick was really giving me a hard time for my negativity towards basketball. I started it. And true, I am not a fan. Just a realist.Posted On: Jan 28th 2018, 7:16 AM #376728
That’s my point. I can’t stand baseball but when they are having a hard time or a bad game I don’t find it necessary to bash them. You don’t like the fact that no matter how bad the basketball team is the baseball team will always be the red headed step child to football and basketball so you take any opportunity to chime in with negativity. I just don’t get it.
I agree the baseball team has consistently been the strongest program we have and they have earned a new stadium but it will never be a revenue generating sport in South Florida so unfortunately they have to wait until we finally get the football program on it’s feet financially then we can invest in the others.
I am praying in 5 years football is in a great position, baseball is getting their new stadium and we are working on the plans for the new convocation center for basketball after coming off a few solid years with the new coach that the new AD hired. A guy can dream. Go Owls.

I feel like we are spinning our wheels. I would love to see basketball advance. I'm just tired of watching us muddle along without trying something , anything to change it.Posted On: Jan 28th 2018, 8:44 AM #376730
We will always be spinning our wheels until we have pieces in place to build a basketball program. We can hire new coaches every 3-5 years. We may have a good year here or there, but we only have a basketball team, not a basketball program. We will have to have a division 1 facility to move up. We have a division 2 facility because we were in division 2 when it was built. Football is advancing as a program because we have things in place or on the drawing board to build a program. A stadium, soon upgraded locker rooms, soon upgraded weight room, soon, upgraded coaching offices, etc.
Would Lane Kiffin have taken the FAU job for the exact same money if we still played in Lockhart? No, you have to have some pieces in place, and basketball is not there.
