To truly be a mid major you have to be in a conference with an RPI of 10-20.

The American is #9, which is considered a high major.

These are the mid majors:

11     West Coast
12     Ivy League
13     Big Sky
14     Western Athletic
15     Southern   
16     Big South
17     Colonial Athletic
18     Mid-American
19     America East
20     Sun Belt
