Tulane, SMU and UTSA remain tied atop the American Athletic Conference standings at 6-0 in conference play with two weeks left in the season.
The 2023 American Athletic Conference Championship Game will feature two of Tulane, SMU, UTSA and Memphis. Upcoming games between those four teams include SMU at Memphis (Nov. 18, noon ET/ESPN2) and UTSA at Tulane (Nov. 24, 3:30 p.m. ET/ABC).
Tulane RB Makhi Hughes registered his sixth consecutive game with at least 100 rushing yards in the Green Wave's 24-22 win against Tulsa. Hughes is the first freshman in program history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season (1,008).
Tulane WR Shedro Louis had a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the win against Tulsa, exactly one year after the last 100-yard kickoff return by an American Athletic Conference player (Jadon Thompson of Cincinnati against East Carolina Nov. 11, 2022).
SMU is 6-0 in conference play for the first time since a 7-0 start in 1982, when the Mustangs were members of the Southwest Conference.
SMU improved to 15-3 in American Athletic Conference home games since 2019 with its win against North Texas Friday.
UTSA has won 16 consecutive games against conference opponents (regular season and postseason) after its 34-14 win against Rice.
UTSA is 12-1 in the month of November under head coach Jeff Traylor.
This week will kick-off with South Florida taking on UTSA under the Friday night lights in a nationally televised feed. Florida Atlantic needs to take down the Green Wave to stay alive in their quest for Bowl Eligibility for the first time in three years.

Sadly, Taggart’s players are still here. and this time, we have a backup QB throwing to them in a tougher, bigger, conference. So, results are as expected sadly. We need to recruit, and hit the portal to fix this.
