The Florida Atlantic University mens soccer team fell to Western Michigan 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at the WMU Soccer Complex. The Broncos (7-2-1, 2-0-0) took the early lead in the 18th minute on a goal from Shane Lyons. Lyons leads WMU with six goals on the season. Oliver Mayer recorded the assist on the play. The Owls (2-5-1, 0-2-0) kept things close until the second half when Kai Mendes broke things open for WMU scoring goals in the 50th and 68th minutes to put the game out of reach. Redshirt freshman forward Benny Barshai paced FAU on offense with three shots, two of them on target. Vincent DiBullo and Sky Cutler also added shots on goal for FAU. Jeremy Crumpton got the start in net for FAU and made five saves. The Owls will return to south Florida and take on in-state rival USF on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The match marks the first of three for FAU at home in the next two weeks with FIU (Oct. 9) and Northern Illinois (Oct. 16) on tap.
