Lukas Simons scored the game-winning goal on Sunday as FAU picked up their first win on the season in a 2-1 defeat over the university of Wisconsin. All three scores occurred within a 30 minute span of the second period. We were thinking about moving him from defender to forward all preseason long, said head coach Kos Donev. We moved him there on Friday night and he scored on his first chance and he put in a big goal for us today. After a scoreless first half, the Owls took the lead off a Darnell King breakaway goal at the 56th minute. However the lead would be short lived, as the Badger’s Kyle McCrudden took advantage of Owl goalkeeper James McCormick’s mishandle of a cross to tie the match. That set up Simons’ game winner late in the second frame. This was a big win for us because we are progressing one game at a time, Donev said. Once again we gave a good effort, but the quality of play is not where we need to be at this point, Badger coach John Trask said. The Owls next face North Florida on Sept. 22.
