Softball Drops Two On Day One of Miken Classic

Owls to Face Miami (OH) and Florida A&M Saturday FAU played host Friday to its third tournament in as many weeks but the luck wasn’t with the Owls as they dropped two on the first day of the Miken Classic. The Owls opened the six team tournament against Florida State. The game was 3-1 through six innings but saw the Seminoles pull away with the 6-3 victory. FAU (7-9) was led by catcher Kerri Croney who was 2-3 with each of the team’s three RBIs. Croney also put the first point on the board for the Owls with an inside the park home run. Rose Gressley pitched a complete game for the Owls and fell to 5-4 on the season. Gressley retired five by strikeout and walked one. FSU had 10 hits on the night. The second game featured FAU versus Eastern Michigan and extra innings were needed to decide the game, 3-2 EMU. Blair Bodenmiller led FAU with a 2-for-4 plate performance, including an RBI. Kathryn Stauffer pitched an outstanding game surrendering now walks and earning 11 strikeouts. Action is scheduled to begin 9 a.m. Saturday. FAU will play Miami (OH) and Florida A&M in the evenings final two games.
