Softball: Owls Down Hilltoppers 3-1

Fawbush Throws Complete Game, Goes 3-for-3 at Plate Freshman pitcher Taylor Fawbush threw a complete game five hitter in the Florida Atlantic softball team’s 3-1 win over Western Kentucky on Thursday. FAU (12-11, 1-2 Sun Belt) scored two runs in the second inning. Rose Gressley and Fawbush hit back-to-back singles, and after Tajanieace Goudeau hit into a fielder’s choice, Brittany Walker hit a single to left field that drove in Fawbush. A fielding error by Western Kentucky also allowed Goudeau to score on the play. The Hilltoppers (9-9, 2-4) scored in the fifth inning on a RBI triple by Sara Williams. That put the tying run on third with just one out, but pinch runner Casey Clark was picked off. A walk and base hit followed, but a grounder back to Fawbush ended the inning. WKU threatened again in the sixth, but another grounder to Fawbush killed the rally. The Owls added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Fawbush capped off a streak of three straight base hits with an RBI single to center that scored Kerri Croney. WKU was retired in order in the seventh to end the game. FAU returns to action on Saturday when they face Charleston Southern and Syracuse as part of the Parents’ Weekend Tournament.
