Owls point guard finishes three rebounds shy of a triple double in rout of Florida Tech Florida Atlantic got its first official win on the season tonight at home against the Panthers of Florida Tech in high scoring fashion 86-63 at FAU Arena. Florida Tech, a member of the Sunshine Conference, had trouble keeping up with the Owl’s speed and transition game throughout the course of the contest. FAU would never trail. After a slow start, the Owls assumed a nine to five lead at the first media stop of the contest. But the Panthers kept stride, trailing by just two (17-15), thanks to the inside scoring of forward Justin Sedlack – who led the Panthers with 28 points and 10 rebounds on 11 of 14 field goal attempts. Shortly afterwards, gathering his third personal foul, Sedlack was forced to sit out the remainder of the period. The Owls took advantage of the opportunity, employing a blistering 34-10 closing run, to lead 51-25 at the break. FAU built further upon its lead, going ahead by as many as 33 points, in the second half. Most of the (second half) points he got had to do with our lack of position, and lack of defensive intensity we were going to run them out whether he was in or not, said Jarvis. Ray Taylor finished just shy of a triple double with 17 points, 10 assists and a team leading seven rebounds. It was a good performance. I got a lot of my jitters out from the previous game before. The team put me a great position. In high school you hear about how different college basketball is. on Tuesday I got all those expectations out. Now, got to go out and play basketball”, said Taylor. Shavar Richardson and Greg Gantt each chipped in 14 points for FAU. The Owls had five players score in double digits. It was just another basketball game for us. We just follow behind our two point guards and they will lead us to victories, said Richardson. In another solid defensive showing, FAU’s continued on-ball pressure held the Panthers to just 32.1% from the floor, and 2 of 14 from long range. First half I thought was pretty good. The offense was good, the defense was good, and the energy was great. If we would have played a little bit smarter, and didnt foul as much the second half would have gone a lot quicker, said Jarvis.
