Safety commits to Owls over offer from Duke I was able to catch up with Florida Atlantics latest 2013 commitment tonight and the newest verbal pledge couldnt be more excited about his decision. Safety Tyler Henderson committed to the Owls two weeks ago over an ACC scholarship offer from Duke. A few weeks ago the coaches called me saying that I had an offer, and then I committed, Henderson said. The 511 190-pound prospect out of Crestview, Fla. selected the Owls after Associate Head Coach Jeff Sims dropped by his school. Sims, who was out recruiting the Panhandle, waited a week to extend a scholarship offer to Henderson, but once he finally did the decision was easy. I think what got me the most is that FAU showed that they had more interest in me than Duke did. That was a big deal to me, Henderson said. The Owls interest was primarily coming from Sims, who maintained phone contact after the visit. I like him (Coach Sims) a lot. Hes straight forward and told me what he wanted from me and how it would be if I went there, Henderson said. While the small town of Crestview is located a little over nine hours from Boca Raton, Henderson feels that the distance wont be an issue. He has yet to visit the campus, but plans on making a trip within the next month to attend either the Florida International of Louisiana Lafayette game. The safety also mentioned that he hadnt visited Duke, and didnt plan on doing so. Its pretty solid, he said of his verbal pledge. Henderson has three interceptions this season and over 50 tackles.
