Erica Caldwell scores a career-high 15 points in the victory The Florida Atlantic womens basketball team defeated Central Florida 63-61 on Saturday night from FAU Arena. The Owls (4-5) were paced by Carla Stubbs who led all scorers with 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Stubbs also added seven rebounds, one assist and one block. Erica Caldwell also had a standout game for the Owls as the senior scored a career-high 15 points to go along with seven rebounds and one block. FAU trailed 15-6 early after an Angelica Mealing three-pointer with 13:30 remaining in the first half gave the Knights their largest lead. The Owls would tighten up defensively and close the half on a 20-7 run to take a 26-22 lead into the halftime locker room. In the second half, the Knights (2-3) pulled even at 30-30 with 17 minutes remaining but were unable to retake the lead. The Owls then took control and were able to pull away with the help of a 24-10 run over the next 10 minutes. Both teams exchanged free-throws down the stretch but the big lead was too much for UCF to overcome. The victory marks the first time FAU has recorded consecutive wins against the Knights in school history. The Owls defeated UCF 68-63 last season and are now 8-21 all time against Central Florida. First team preseason all-conference selection Emma Cannon led the way for UCF with 13 points and eight rebounds. Chelsie Wiley also added 13 points for the Knights. As a team, the Owls held UCF to 31.8% shooting. FAU shot a season-high 51.8% from the field and out-rebounded the Knights 39-37. FAU will begin Sun Belt Conference play next week with a trip to New Orleans on December 16. Tip-off with the Privateers scheduled for 8 p.m.
