The Owls nabbed a flipped midseason commitment from the Sun Belt's Appalachian State Mountaineers, landing a talented receiver in Teddy Hoffmann.

Hoffmann announced his commitment to the Owls on Monday evening via Instagram, a few days following an official visit on campus this past weekend and four months after initially pledging to App State in mid-June.

"Staying home has always been a dream of mine and I'm blessed to have to chance to do that" Hoffmann told FAU Owl's Nest of his decision.

Hoffmann, a 6-foot versatile athlete, excels at playing both wide receiver and defensive back at an elite level. His adaptability and readiness to contribute on both sides of the ball render him an invaluable asset in Atlantic's well-equipped lineup.

So far this season, he has made up to 31 catches for 558 yards and nine touchdowns in seven games for the Eagles. In his junior campaign last year, he had 51 receptions for 927 yards and 15 touchdowns.

As aforementioned, he is not afraid to play defense either. Capable of playing at cornerback or free safety, he has made 54 tackles (33 solo) and three interceptions to date throughout his high school career.

“He’s a high-volume inside wide receiver that is playing his best football as a senior after leveling up in competition," said 247Sports' Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins.

"Type of target that’s not going to ever really blow you away with his size or speed, but he understands how to get open at the first and second levels. More importantly, he capitalizes on his catch-and-run opportunities."

Rated as a three-star receiver with an 86 score on 247Sports, he is ranked the 146th-best player in the state of Florida and the 285th-best at his position. His composite score of 0.8467 ranks 201st in Florida and 206th among other receivers. ESPN, Rivals, and On3 have him rated as a three-star prospect as well.

Switching from App State, he chose the Owls over enticing offers from multiple FBS schools such as Army, Navy, Nebraska, and Western Kentucky among others.

Hoffmann possesses the skill to dismantle opposing defenses with his vertical threat capability and accumulate yards after the catch. He is versatile in lining up at various positions and is honing a wide-ranging route tree, highly beneficial to FAU's future depth at receiver.

"For FAU, I think it’s exactly the type of local offensive talent that they should be prioritizing. Yes, there’s plenty of wide receivers available in the transfer portal every window, but the ones that get the job done on Saturdays usually are the ones where the arrow was pointing up exiting high school,” Ivins said.

He is the 21st member (10th offensive player) of the Owls' 2025 class, being the third receiver to join the group after Branden Hoch and Jade Card.

"I'm trying to come in and play early and make an impact on the offense and help FAU win a lot of games", Hoffmann said.
