The Tri-County takeover is the gift that doesn't stop giving for FAU, as the Owls landed a commitment from Jonathan Carter, a 3 star safety/ATH out of Charles W. Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines, FL.

The high school senior chose FAU over USF, Tulane, Louisville, Texas A&M, and others, most recently visiting Boca Raton on July 25th. In a statement to FAU Owls Nest, Carter explained that the coaching staff’s family-like approach and his belief in their development strategy was what sealed the deal on paradise for him.
"The FAU coaching staff made me feel like family and made FAU feel like home", Carter said of his visit to the Boca Raton campus last Thursday. "I chose FAU because I believe they will develop me into a great person and a great football player. Coach Gibson and Coach Harris have stuck with me through my whole recruiting process, gave me great advice, and have built a great relationship with me."
Carter is a versatile prospect who has the skills needed to fit in both the safety and cornerback role. He will likely line up at the former for the Owls.
Per 247 sports, Carter is the 95th overall player in the state of Florida and 66th ranked safety in the nation. Carter played in 9 games this past season for the falcons, recording 26 tackles a PBU and a forced fumble for a Flanagan squad who went 4-5-1 in 2023.
Outside of football, Flanagan is a dual-sport athlete who competes in track and field for Flanagan HS, mainly in hurdle competitions, where, on March 5th 2024 he placed 1st in the BCAA 110M hurdle competition with a time of 15.83. Flanagan comes from a family of athletes, as his father Jonathan was a 6x All-American sprinter at FSU (1991-96) and his sister Jassani is a sprinter at USC, competing in the 100M & 200M dash competitions.
That athleticism, which Carter put on full display on the track, is also quite evident in his play on the football field, as his DB Coach Nasheed Chandler believes there is not much more to desire in an athlete than what FAU will be getting in Carter.
"Great kid, and one of the hardest working kids I have ever coached", said Flanagan Football Assistant Head Coach Nasheed Chandler. "He's a dynamic and explosive football player who is extremely physical and a hard hitter. He's everything you can ask for in an athlete."
Carter adds to an already strong 2025 class for Tom Herman, which is currently the 71st ranked class per 247. He becomes the second ‘25 safety, alongside tri-county commit Damon Allen out of West Boca HS and the safety unit has the potential to be loaded with talent text season, as Allen and Carter will join 2024 commits Mike Wright, CJ Heard, and Kyle Boylston alongside veterans Phil Dunham and Fabian Scott in the DB room for the Owls.
