Weisman made his announcement on Saturday afternoon, redshirting the first season of his collegiate career with the Buffaloes, playing as a reserve behind starter Shedeur Sanders.
He entered the transfer portal last December, citing “recent changes” at the program for the reasoning behind his decision. This came after former offensive coordinator Sean Lewis departed for the head coaching job at San Diego State.
He came out of South Paulding High School ranked as a three-star recruit by 247Sports with an 85 score. He was also rated the 66th-best player at his position and the 134th-best player in the state of Georgia. He originally committed to Kansas in August 2022 following offers from FAU, Hawaii, Tulane, App State, Liberty, and Middle Tennessee before flipping to Colorado in December.
“The type of quarterback that isn’t afraid to improvise or take a shot and has done both while operating out of a single-back spread attack at South Paulding. Can set his feet and let it rip, but tends to make some of his best throws on the move as he will layer the ball to all different levels while evading pressure in the pocket,” 247Sports’ Scouting Director Andrew Ivins said in his report on Weisman in 2022.
“Shouldn’t exactly be labeled as a runner, but has experience coordinating RPOs and owns an above-average testing profile (has a laser-timed 4.8 in the 40-yard dash on record to go along with a 4.3 in the short shuttle…Likely to find most success in a modern pro-style system that features a ton of motion and allows quarterbacks to find a rhythm.”
Weisman went 8-4 as a starter in his senior year for a South Paulding program that made the first round of Peach State’s AAAAAA playoffs. In the first 11 games, he completed 131 of 205 passing attempts (63.9 percent) for 1,756 yards with 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also ran for 242 yards and three more touchdowns while averaging 5.8 yards per carry.
In his high school career, he completed 305-of-505 passes (60.4%) for 4,432 yards and 38 touchdowns with 19 interceptions, while rushing 157 times for 743 yards and 15 scores. He was the starting quarterback in his last two years, helping the team to a 16-7 overall record and 12-2 record in league play.
He puts himself in a tough battle for the starting job at quarterback, competing with fellow Owls Cam Fancher and Tyriq Starks throughout the course of fall camp when it begins.
