The Florida Atlantic football team just made an upgrade to their trenches, stealing a talented offensive lineman from in-state rival FIU in Ja’Kavion Nonar. Nonar is transferring from up north at Maryland, making his way to Boca Raton this spring.
Making his announcement on Sunday evening, Nonar departs the Terrapins after two seasons. Nonar appeared in one game after rotating in during Maryland’s season-opening win against Towson.
Nonar came out of Glades Central High School ranked as a three-star recruit by 247Sports with an 86 score. He was also rated the 76th-best player at his position and the 103rd-best player in the state of Florida.
He made an unofficial visit to FAU during October 2021 and had offers from Florida, Pittsburgh, and Ole Miss among others before committing to Maryland that year. Furthermore, ESPN and Rivals and On3 also have him rated as a three-star lineman.
“Named to ESPN 106.3’s Top 63 list, which recognizes the top seniors in Florida’s Palm Beach, Martin, Indian River and St. Lucie counties,” acccording to 247Sports’ high school scouting report.
“Started for a Glades Central team that went 5-1 and played for a South Florida tri-county championship during pandemic-shortened season.”
He is now the 32nd member of FAU’s budding 2024 class. Entering the portal on December 8th, 2023, he chose the Owls over FIU among others. He’ll be bringing plenty of long-term security for FAU, having three years of eligibility remaining.
He also becomes the second offensive lineman to transfer to the Owls for the 2024 season, joining the likes of Daughtry Richardson from Florida State.
