Andy Mee paces Owl’s offensive with four RBI Florida Atlantic scored four runs in the first inning en route to a 12-3 victory over Rutgers on Tuesday night. The Owls (9-5) received first-inning RBIs by Andy Mee, Dan Scheffler and Colby Gratton to take control of the game early. After scratching across another run in the second to make it 5-1, Mee connected on his second home run of the season, a two-run shot to put the Owls ahead 7-1. The Palm Beach Gardens native finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBI. Taylor Everist (1-3) received the start and pitched two innings while giving up three hits, and one run with one walk and one strikeout. The Apopka native used the start to fix his mechanics after only lasting 1.2 innings in Fridays start against Troy. Despite only throwing two innings, Everist was eligible for the victory because his pitch count was announced before the game. I was happy for him to get the win, said head coach John McCormack. He had pitched well enough in previous starts to earn a victory, and I guess the baseball gods just evened things out. Initially in relief of Everist was left-hander Barry Rooks. The senior had a very strong outing in his first appearance since returning from injury, pitching two perfect innings with three strikeouts. Mike Ruccio and Jake Meiers also made their first appearances in the victory. FAU will wrap-up their two-game series against the Scarlet Knights on Wednesday with R.J. Alvarez (0-0, 10.80) on the mound for the Owls. RHP Jerry Elsing (2-0, 2.25) will start for Rutgers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
