The 2025 Florida Atlantic Baseball season finally gets underway this evening at FAU Baseball Stadium. The Owls will host the Delaware Blue Hens out of the CAA for their first series of the spring season. With the Owls dominating this series 8-1 all time, they’ll look to get off to a hot start to their 2025 campaign.
Delaware finished off their 2024 season with a 31-26 record, with notable wins over mid-major programs such as UPenn and Northeastern. Not the most battle tested team but they still finished with an above .500 record nonetheless. The roster features multiple JUCO and power four conference transfers, as well as a former NEC Player of the Year in Evan Bouldin.
The Owls rotation this weekend will feature a couple familiar faces alongside one newcomer who has generated quite some hype coming into the spring. Sophomore left hander Trey Beard will get his first Friday start of the 2025 season. Beard threw over 65 innings for the Owls last season, and with an improved pitch mix should be a very fun arm to watch in the season opener.

Junior Tyler Murphy will take the bump for the second game of this series on Saturday. Murphy recorded a 13.5 K/9 this summer in the SFCL in 26.0 innings pitched, and it’ll be interesting to see how he carries that success into the spring season. The final start of the weekend will go to Freshman James Litman. The West Boca High School alum looked great in Fall intrasquads, and has raved about the coaching staff’s ability to help his development.
The offense will feature a series of returners that are very familiar names from the 2024 lineup, but also some newcomers as well. Blinn College transfer and JUCO National Champion Marshall Lipsey will make his spring debut with the Owls. A heavy hitter, Lipsey hit 47 extra base hits in his two year JUCO career before heading to Boca Raton. It’ll be very fun to watch Lipsey’s debut at the plate, as well in the outfield in center.
For Head Coach John McCormack’s squad this first series is crucial for their early season momentum. The rest of February following this series is not the easiest schedule in the world. The Owls will take on Miami (FL) on Tuesday for some mid-week action, before hosting UConn for a weekend series. Both difficult opponents, if the Owls can start off hot against the Blue Hens they should be in great position to perform well in all four of those games at home.
In their second season in the AAC, the Owls have a deeper pitching staff and a lineup that can turn a lot of heads across the college baseball world this season. The road to Omaha starts tonight, and that long road begins right here for the Owls, in Paradise.
