The receiving corps of the Florida Atlantic football team continues to get strong with each passing day, as head coach Zach Kittley landed the team’s next commitment in JR Wilson.

Wilson announced his commitment to the Owls on Wednesday evening via X, shortly after entering the portal on Dec. 8. He joins the team with two years of eligibility remaining. A lot of things about FAU appealed to Wilson, particularly the community on campus.
“What really convinced me to transfer was the environment, people, and weather. It was great to see a bunch of new faces, change of scenery. Felt like a breath of fresh air,” Wilson said.
He looks for a new opportunity after being a member of the Virginia Cavaliers for three seasons, having played in 27 games as he was a starter in seven of those contests. For his career at Virginia, Wilson totaled 26 receptions for 305 yards and a touchdown.
This past campaign saw him earn his first career touchdown, making a catch for 68 yards against North Carolina on Oct. 26. He finished 2024 with eight catches for 121 yards and the aforementioned score.
Production was a topic heavily discussed between Wilson and Kittley, especially when it came to changing football at FAU for the better. This excited the receiver, who sees plenty of opportunities to make plays in the offense that the first-year head coach will implement.
“What excites me the most is the amount of times we’ll throw the ball, coming from a pro style to now a spread is beautiful as it is receiver friendly which Is better for someone like me,” Wilson said.
“I see myself from day 1 making a huge impact which was a major key on my decision, where I felt I was going to make the most production and I felt like that was here at FAU.”
Wilson was viewed as a consensus three-star prospect by recruiting outlets coming out of high school. On 247Sports, he has an 84 score as the ninth-best player in the state of New York and the 211th-best receiver in the Class of 2022. He had multiple intriguing offers from teams like Oregon, Kentucky, and Virginia Tech among other schools before enrolling at Virginia in June 2022.
Wilson has the ability to torch defenders on routes and break down opposing defenses with his speed and strength, making him a potential weapon for FAU’s depth at wide receiver. Besides getting better on the field, Wilson has a personal goal for himself as a new member of the Owls’ community.
“Looking forward to building new relationships and getting to know people around the community,” Wilson said.
